Live in the Truth of God

By Barbara J. Scott
I was in a church service one time when there was a "prophet" praying for the people. After a time, he called for an offering and had his mind totally on the offering instead of the people coming for prayer. One man went for prayer while the offering was being taken and the "prophet" told the man to come back to another service and then he would pray for him.
Live in the Truth of God

Jesus is about to end His Sermon on the Mount, and is now giving His disciples some last warnings as He is about to send them out into the world. They are now going out as "Ambassadors for Christ", representing Him with the authority He has given them. They will now be living their lives according to the message of the Beatitudes (with "beautiful attitudes") and all that Jesus has taught them in His great Sermon. But He is warning then that, "there are going to be some false prophets out there to try to trip you up." Watch out for them: they are only out there for their own greed and selfishness. And you will know them by the life they live and what they are producing in the lives of others. Paul says that we should, "Try the spirits by the Spirit of God." (1 John 4:1-3).  The Spirit of God in me can discern the Spirit of God in someone else, because God's Spirit speaks and reacts to His Spirit. But if the spirit in a person is not of God it shall be revealed by His (God's) Spirit.  Just as God's wrath was upon the false prophets in Jeremiah's day, He hasn't changed and feels the same way about false prophets today. When a true prophet speaks, his words come to pass, there is a manifestation of the words he has spoken. A false prophet, on the other hand, tells the people lies, things that they know the people want to hear, to make them feel good, so that they will be willing to give up their money when the false prophet calls for an offering.

Jesus says they are like corrupt bad trees that produces bad fruit. We had to have a, seemingly beautiful shade tree in our yard, cut down because it was rotten at the roots. You would never have known except for the tree surgeon telling us. He also cut down a neighbor's tree across the street from us, and he told me the tree had about fifty snakes in it. It looked good on the outside but was corrupt at the foundation.

We must remember that even though we may not be a prophet, we are constantly speaking into the lives of others.  Are we speaking life bearing fruit; fruit that will remain; or are we speaking corrupt fruit that brings death and destruction? Pray that we be real for Jesus in every area of our lives, so that we can bear good fruit, producing souls for the kingdom. The Word of God say, "God is a Spirit: and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth." John 4:24. Watch out for false prophets, inside and out. Live in and speak only the truth of God, in love.
