Oh, Christmas Tree

By Barbara J. Scott
I know, Christmas is coming soon, so why am I writing about a Christmas tree, at this time of the year? Every year Christmas comes and goes so quickly. If you were like me, last year you sang a lot of Christmas Carols. And you know what, I understood the meaning of the Christmas Carols like I have never done before; even after singing them and knowing them by heart for many years.
Oh, Christmas Tree

I know, Christmas is coming soon, so why am I writing about a Christmas tree, at this time of the year?  Every year Christmas comes and goes so quickly.  If you were like me, last year you sang a lot of Christmas Carols.  And you know what, I understood the meaning of the Christmas Carols like I have never done before; even after singing them and knowing them by heart for many years.  Yes, it has be so commercialized that people have lost the true meaning of what we celebrate at Christmas time. Many people, especially some Christians feel that the Christmas decorations are worldly and insignificant.  But if you listen to the Holy Spirit and let Him teach you about the decorations, you will learn that they are very significant to the birth of Jesus and why He came to earth (of course, I am not talking about anything that has to do with Santa Claus).  If you know the true meaning of Christmas you know that Jesus came into the world to die for us, that we might be saved from sin.  Jesus indicated to His disciples how He would die, but they didn't grasp hold of Him being crucified on a cross.  Jesus told them, "As you know, Passover begins in two days, and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified." Matthew 26:2. It went right over their heads.  Jesus had to die on a cross, that is why the Romans had to be the ones who carried out the death sentence that the Jews laid upon Jesus. Crucifixion was the Roman way of execution for their criminals.  You see, it was all a part of the prophecy being fulfilled.  The Jewish law stated that anyone who was hung on a tree was cursed in the sight of God. (Deuteronomy 21:23).  Jesus became a CURSE for us by going to the cross.  "But Christ has rescued us from the curse pronounced by the law.  When He was hung on the cross, He took upon Himself the curse for our wrongdoing.  For it is written in the Scriptures, "Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree." Galatians 3:13 NIV. Notice too, that the tree we decorate at Christmas time is an Evergreen tree; it lives year round, year in and year out.  This tree represents EVERLASTING LIFE.  Our Savior Jesus Christ shed His precious Blood on a tree, thereby becoming a curse for us, so that we should not perish but have eternal life.  What a miracle of God's grace and mercy.  So, let's prepare our hearts for this coming Christmas, to receive it in it's true meaning. "O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree, how lovely are thy branches…"

Oh, Christmas Tree

I know, Christmas is past, so why am I writing about a Christmas tree?  Well, let's not forget about Christmas so quickly.  If you were like me, you sang a lot of Christmas Carols.  And you know what, I understood the meaning of the Christmas Carols like I have never done before; even after singing them and knowing them by heart for many years. Jesus told them, "As you know, Passover begins in two days, and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified."
