New in Christ Jesus

By Lula Reed
We know we can't do anything to change our hearts, so we must not trust at all in ourselves or our good works. Our lives will show whether the grace of God is dwelling in us because a change will be seen in our ways of thinking, our feelings, and our behavior; and especially the difference in our personality; of what we have been and what we are now. The new us is being revealed by the way we think, feel, and behave and by our words and actions.
New in Christ Jesus

"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature; old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."  2 Corinthians 5:17.

Ladies have you ever thought about what "brand new" means?  Well, Webster dictionary says, "it`s completely new".  A prime example of what I'm talking about is John 3:8 (NIV): Christ is talking to Nicodemus and He says, "The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going.  So it is with everyone born of the Spirit".  Just like the wind which is invisible yet the effects of which are plainly seen and felt, so is the Spirit of God that's upon the human heart; that spiritually reborn or converted power which no human eye can see, began a new life in the soul. He creates a new being in the image of God.  While the works of the Spirit are silent and impossible to see, the effects are able to be seen; and if the heart has been renewed by the Spirit of God then our life will show to that effect.

It is true that there may be an outer form or appearance or true correction in a way that a person behaves, without the renewing power of Christ; because of the love of influences and the desires for the respect and affection of others. Self-respect may lead us to avoid someone or something that looks evil.  A selfish heart may perform generous actions. So then, by what means can we determine for real, whose side we are on, who has our heart, where are our thoughts, who do we love to talk to, who has our warmest affections and our best efforts?  If we are claiming to be Christ's our thoughts are with Him and our sweetest thoughts are of Him.  All we have and what we are, is dedicated, highly valued, and important for God's purpose.  Our desire is to be one in God's image.  We want to feel His Spirit, do His will, and most of all please God in all things: then we will know that we have been changed, have become made over new for a new beginning.
