Having the Mind of Christ

By Barbara J. Scott
When Jesus washed His disciples' feet He was demonstrating true humility. If you can be a servant (a humble servant), working with people who get on your last nerve; being nice to those who are not nice; being kind to those who speak ill of you; loving the unlovely: you are on your way for a blessing. Try it today, and see what happens.
Having the Mind of Christ

"Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who being in the form of a man, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made of Himself no reputation, and took upon Him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, He humbled Himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross."  Philippians 2:5-8.

Jesus was able to do this because He lived by the plan of God.  He did not operate by an agenda that He had set for Himself.  When He was twelve years old, Jesus asked His parents, when they were frantically looking for Him, "Know you not, that I must be about my Father's business?"  Jesus indicated that He does nothing of Himself; He took His orders from God His Father. Whatever we do, make sure we don't do it without the leading of the Lord.  If you can't do it in front of Jesus, don't do it!!  All that Jesus did was a part of God's plan.  He was sure that the Father had a plan for His life.  Being a Christian is not easy, but it is part of the plan of God for each of us.  The situation may be uncomfortable, but it is part of the plan.  We can serve in the midst of the storm; among the unloving, the scared, and the selfish, when we know that God has a plan for our life.  When we are sure about what God has for us, we can celebrate how we are going to end up, rather than fret about what we have to endure.  God wants us to prosper and to give us a hope and a future.  He will work all things together for our good.  He will complete whatever He begins.  Philippians 1:6 says, "Being confident of this very thing, that He Who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ."

Jesus not only knew of the plan that God had for His life, but He also lived with the understanding of the anointing that was on His life.  The anointing was the empowerment that enabled Him to live His life on this earth with the authority of His Father.  We need the anointing of God.  We simply cannot life this life without it.  The anointing is the power of God that is given to us by way of the Holy Spirit; in order to do the will of God.  It is God's power that is released in us by way of the Holy Spirit, so that we may give glory and honor to God.  One of the things that the devil could not handle was the anointing upon Jesus' life.  When there are things that are in the plan of God that causes discomfort and stress, God will give the anointing to handle it.  There are things that happened in our lives that would have destroyed us, if it had not been for the anointing of the Holy Spirit.  It is a reality that comes by having Jesus in your life.  The Holy Spirit enables you to serve, in spite of your feelings.  You worship when you don't feel like it; you witness when you don't feel like it.  It has nothing to do with your feelings.

Pray for the Lord to fill you with the "humility of the Lamb (Jesus)".  Pick up your towel and serve as Jesus served.  Whatever God has planned for you, walk in the anointing and wash the feet of those whom the Lord will put in your path: it's a part of God's plan.  Do it in the love of Jesus, exemplifying His unconditional love for everyone.
