Detour Ahead

Detour Ahead

Have you ever been traveling on a certain route, knowing where you were going, when all of a sudden you see police cars blocking the road so that you can't continue on that route? This recently happened to me, at night, on a street that I travel several times a week; but the surrounding area was unfamiliar to me. I am one who can really get turned around at night even in a familiar place, and even when there is no detour. Alright, I can't go straight, so which way do I go, left or right? I see drivers turning left, so I follow. I follow one driver in particular, who seems to know which way to go. He stops at a dead end and turns left, then another dead end. I finally realized he doesn't know where he is going either. After going in wrong directions, having to make U-turns, trying to find my own way, I finally hear the Holy Spirit, who is my Guide, saying, "Turn on your GPS." I had no problem after that. Thank God for that still small voice. "Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, "This is the way; walk in it." Isaiah 30:21 NIV.

We will find there are many detours in life and most of the time they come unexpectedly: the lose of a loved one, the lose of your job; a devastating sickness; a broken relationship: and you realize you can't stay on the route you are traveling. But no matter what turn you have to make, make sure you are following the right Driver. Don't be distracted by following those who seem to know where they are going and are really leading you down the wrong road. God has His reasons for allowing these detours in our lives, to strengthen our faith in Him, to keep us focused on Him. He knows the end from the beginning and He knows which is the best route for us to take. We may not know where the detour will take us, but we must trust the Holy Spirit to guide us safely through so that we can continue to travel to our destiny. It is when we feel we have to take matters into our own hands, that we lose our way and waste time trying to get back on track.

Stay connected, turn on your "GPS" (God's Protecting Spirit), and trust Him, follow His lead and He will surely get you to your destination in good form. "Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Hm, and He shall direct thy paths." Proverbs 3:5-6.
