Do More Than You Can

We cannot do God's work without abiding in Jesus; it is unacceptable. Jesus says we must obey His Word, keep His commandments. We can do more if we live in Him and allow Him to live in us. We can do so much more than we ever dreamed we could do.
Jesus said, "I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in Me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without Me ye can do nothing." John 15:5. In order to bring in "much" fruit there is a stipulation Jesus put forth. First, we must abide in Him. Abide, what does that mean? We must live in Him, and stay where we live. We can't be roaming around out of our dwelling place and expect Jesus to go looking for us. He is only going to look one place, and that is in Him. We must be in close relationship with Him doing His will. He must be living His life through us, otherwise we are no good to Him. "If a man abide not in Me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned." John 15:6.
When we are not abiding in Jesus we are going off on our own way, and there are many ditches on that path. "Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not on your own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths." Proverbs 3:5-6. Jesus said there is nothing we can do without Him. It doesn't matter how smart we think we are, how much education we have, how much we have prospered without Jesus; it amounts to a big fat "0" in His sight. But whatever we do in His Name, He blesses it abundantly and prospers us in every way. He uses us for His glory and souls are saved, bodies healed, minds delivered from the bondage of addictions, and so much more.
Doing good works out of the will of God will not bring His good favor upon us. Jesus says, "Many will say to Me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Thy Name? and in Thy Name have cast out devils? And in Thy Name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from Me, ye that work iniquity." Matthew 7:22-23. We cannot do God's work without abiding in Jesus; it is unacceptable. Jesus says we must obey His Word, keep His commandments. We can do more if we live in Him and allow Him to live in us. We can do so much more than we ever dreamed we could do. Jesus said that we would do greater works than He did. With the empowerment of the Holy Ghost, it is possible; but we cannot bypass Jesus and expect to do the greater works. The Holy Ghost is the One Who enables us to live in Jesus, and He is Jesus living in us. He takes the things of Jesus and shows them to us. We cannot bombard our way to the Father and ignore Jesus. He is the only way to the Father, and He will be our Judge in the end. But with Jesus, we can do all things. "I can do all things through Christ Who strengthens me." Philippians 4:13.

I was in a church service one time when there was a "prophet" praying for the people. After a time, he called for an offering and had his mind totally on the offering instead of the people coming for prayer. One man went for prayer while the offering was being taken and the "prophet" told the man to come back to another service and then he would pray for him.

When we focus on money and things – possessions, we put them before God and forget about Him. Jesus said it is hard for a rich man to enter into heaven. Why is this so? Because he feels he has all he needs and doesn't need God, the One who has the whole world in His hands. A rich man depends on his riches and possessions to gain whatever happiness he needs in life: not realizing that the mammon is temporal and will pass away.

In this day and time men need encouragement like never before. They need to know that they are loved and very much need in this world. They also need Godly wisdom and understanding of the ways of the kingdom of God. Jesus is our supreme example in how to live as holy men of God. He prayed often to the Father, putting His earthly life completely in God's hands.
